This Privacy Policy explains what personal data is collected when you visit adventurenat.online (“Adventure Nat”, “we”), how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices and rights you have. It also covers the cookies used by Google AdSense and Google Analytics. More detail on cookies is in our Cookie Policy.
1. Who Is Responsible
Adventure Nat is run by one person who writes under the pen name Natalie Brooks. The site owner is responsible for the personal data described here. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@adventurenat.online.
2. Information You Give Us
- Newsletter: your name and email address, and the time you agreed to receive emails. We send a confirmation email first, and you are only subscribed after you click the link in it. We then email you when new posts are published.
- Comments: your name, email address, comment text and, if you add them, an image or profile picture. Your name, comment and images are shown publicly; your email address is not. To save returning commenters retyping, the comment form looks up the name and profile picture previously used with an email address when it is typed in, and your browser remembers your name and email for the next comment on the same device.
- Contact form: your name, email address, subject and message. They are sent by email to our inbox so we can reply.
3. Information Collected Automatically
- Server and security data: like any website, our hosting provider processes your IP address, browser details and the pages you request in order to deliver the site and keep it secure. To prevent spam, the site briefly records the IP address behind likes, comments, sign-ups and contact messages; these records are deleted within 24 hours.
- Our own cookie and browser storage: an anonymous random ID (the
public_visitorcookie) so likes, comment votes and view counts are counted once per visitor, plus small values stored in your browser for view counting and the comment form. See the Cookie Policy. - Google Analytics: information about how you use the site (see section 5).
- Google AdSense: information used to show and measure ads (see section 4).
- Google Fonts: the site's fonts are loaded from Google's servers, so your browser sends your IP address to Google when a page loads.
4. Google AdSense and Third-Party Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads on this site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Where you have not agreed to personalized ads, or where personalization is not allowed, Google may still show non-personalized ads, which use cookies for things like frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
- To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
5. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are read, how long visits last, which site or search brought you here, and your device type and approximate location. It uses cookies to tell visits apart. We use this information only in aggregate, to improve the site. You can stop Google Analytics from collecting data about you by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
6. Consent for Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message provided through Google (a Google-certified consent management platform) asks for your choice before advertising and analytics cookies are used for purposes that need consent, including personalized ads. You can accept, refuse or choose by purpose, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the privacy settings option the message provides, or by clearing this site's cookies, after which the message appears again.
For visitors in these regions, we rely on your consent for these cookies and for the newsletter, and on our legitimate interests for running the site securely, preventing spam and answering your messages.
7. Service Providers
We don't sell or rent your personal information. It is shared only with the service providers that run parts of the site for us:
- Hostinger: web hosting and content delivery, the site's database, and our email service, which sends the newsletter and confirmation emails and receives contact messages.
- Google: advertising (Google AdSense and its certified ad partners), analytics (Google Analytics) and web fonts (Google Fonts).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. Some of these providers process data outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards they provide.
8. How Long We Keep Data
- Newsletter: while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep a record that you did so, so that you aren't emailed again; ask us if you would like it deleted completely.
- Comments: as long as the comment stays on the site, or until you ask us to remove it.
- Contact messages: as long as needed to answer you and keep a record of the conversation.
- Anti-spam IP records: up to 24 hours. Our visitor cookie: up to one year.
- Google keeps advertising and analytics data according to its own policies.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use, receive a copy of it, and withdraw your consent at any time (this doesn't affect anything done before you withdrew it). You can unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in every email. Residents of California and other U.S. states can ask what personal information we hold and ask for it to be deleted, and can opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings.
To make a request, email privacy@adventurenat.online. We'll reply within one month. If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Children's Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Links to Other Websites
Posts may link to other websites, which have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for how they handle your information.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when the site or the law changes. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
